Surrey children want less screen time and more green time

Due to demand from children and young people who want to get outdoors and take part in activities and adventure the 9th Ashford (Noah’s Ark) has opened in Spelthorne. They have opened Squirrels (4–6-year-olds), Beavers (6–8-year-olds), Cubs (8–10-year-olds) and Scouts (10–14-year-olds) meaning more young people from the area will be making friends, building their confidence, and gaining skills that will prepare them for life and work.
Scouts offers more than two hundred activities, from outdoor adventures and creative arts to community projects and technical challenges. Whether it’s hiking, building robots, or launching a social action project, Scouts provides a safe, supportive place to grow.
Dwayne Fields, adventurer, TV presenter, and Chief Scout said: “It’s so important that young people have a chance to get outdoors and to feel wet grass under their feet and a little mud on their hands. Living and working together with others at camp and on outdoor activities helps build an adventure spirit, respect, and grit - all key life skills.”
In a recent poll 94% of Scouts said they had developed useful skills, 95% said they’ve tried activities they haven’t tried before and 85% said they are happier since joining.

Alan, a volunteer said ‘’Whether you want to work with young people directly or help behind the scenes as a Trustee, there's something for everyone at Scouts. What’s really needed is a smile, patience, and willingness to share a little time to help others. Volunteers say they get back ten times what they put in – including new skills, new friends, and a renewed sense of the difference they can make when people work together.’’
Meetings take place at the Spelthorne Scout Headquarter, Hengrove, TW15 3HN. Whether you have a young person wanting to go on an adventure, or you’re an adult wanting to help create these adventures you can find out more https://spelthornescouts.org.uk/Contact/
