London Gatwick welcomes Royal Air Maroc’s inaugural flight to historic city

London Gatwick has welcomed Royal Air Maroc’s inaugural flight to Tetouan, as the airline launches a new twice-weekly service to the historic north-east Moroccan city.

Operating every Thursday and Sunday from 29 March, the route offers passengers effortless access to Tetouan’s UNESCO-listed medina, the scenic Rif Mountains and the stunning coastline of Tamouda Bay, just a short drive from the airport.

The flights form part of Royal Air Maroc’s wider expansion, as the airline opens a new base at Tetouan – Sania R’mel Airport and enhances connectivity across northern Morocco.

Zoubida Smahi, general manager United Kingdom at Royal Air Maroc, said: “This new route marks an exciting milestone for Royal Air Maroc and for the growing relationship between the UK and Morocco.

“By introducing direct flights between London Gatwick and Tetouan, we strengthen the appeal of the region for UK travellers while advancing our ambition to open northern Morocco to key European markets.

“This connection will benefit a wide range of passengers —tourists seeking new cultural and coastal destinations, business travellers exploring emerging opportunities, and members of the Moroccan diaspora looking for easier access to their home region.

“We are confident that this service will stimulate economic activity, encourage new partnerships, and highlight the natural beauty, heritage, and hospitality that northern Morocco has to offer.”

Jonny Macneal, head of aviation development, London Gatwick, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Royal Air Maroc’s new Tetouan service, giving passengers even more choice for unique cultural breaks, warm-weather escapes and access to one of Morocco’s most beautiful coastal regions.”

The route will be operated by a modern Embraer 190, providing convenient short-haul travel and seamless onward connectivity through Royal Air Maroc’s Moroccan network.
