A baby bank in Surrey has received a £1,000 funding boost as part of Benefact Group’s Movement for Good Awards to support its vital work.

Stripey Stork collects donations of clothes, toys and essential items for babies and children. The team then rehomes these to local families that are experiencing hardship, the recipients are introduced to the charity through social workers and health care professionals.

The £1,000 donation made as part of the Movement for Good Awards will help Stripey Stork support the requests they receive for help, which on average is 200 per week. The award allows the baby bank to ensure that the items that are sent to families which must be new can be ordered, such as a safe mattress for a donated moses basket, and nappies and toiletries can be included in a new baby pack with all the clothes, bedding and equipment the organisation provides.

Nicola Dawes DL, Chief Executive at Stripey Stork, has spoken out following the overwhelming support from the public: “The Benefact Group Movement for Good Awards are just such an accessible and valuable way for charities like Stripey Stork to make an impact in our community. Our volunteers regularly comment that voting for us online is such a simple way to support us, and the tools and resources provided by Benefact Group make it easy for our team to schedule and share online. It was exciting to learn that we’d been selected as Stripey Stork can do so much with a £1,000 grant. We want the recipients to feel they’re receiving a gift and not a handout, and the items are always sent with lots of Team Stork love.”

Benefact Group’s Movement for Good Awards is giving away over £1million to charities across the year and invites members of the public to nominate causes close to their hearts. 100 awards of £1,000 have been donated to charities across the UK and Ireland, including three charities based in Surrey. As well as Stripey Stork, the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust and Kicks Count have also received an award. Further winners will be revealed later in the year and Surrey residents are encouraged to keep nominating by visiting https://movementforgood.com/.

Mark Hews, Group Chief Executive at Benefact Group, said: “We would like to thank every single person who took the time to nominate a good cause as part of our Movement for Good Awards. Benefact Group is a family of award-winning specialist financial services companies and the third largest corporate donor to charity in the UK. Owned by a charity ourselves, charitable giving is at the heart of what we do. All of our available profits go to good causes and the more the Group grows, the more the Group can give.

“We are delighted to be able to donate over £1million to good causes each year through our Movement for Good Awards and are grateful to all our supporters, including the customers of the trusted insurer, Ecclesiastical, and the responsible and sustainable asset manager, EdenTree. We know that £1,000 can make a huge difference to the incredible work that charities do and we’re looking forward to seeing how this financial boost will change lives for the better.”
