Brave 'biscuit' pups rescued from car boot sale

Five young Jack Russell Terrier puppies, affectionately named Dodger, Jaffa, Jammie, Bourbon and Custard after biscuits, are melting hearts at Dogs Trust Harefield after being rescued from a local car boot sale.

The adorable litter was just four weeks old when they were seized by the police and handed over to the rehoming centre about three weeks ago. The woman attempting to sell them claimed they were six weeks old, which would still have been far too young to leave their mother. Once in the charity’s care, health checks confirmed they were sadly even younger than expected.

Despite their crumby start to life, the pups have taken everything in their tiny strides. They were carefully transitioned onto special food for newborn puppies and the smallest of the litter, little Bourbon, also received bottle feeds to give her a fighting chance. The rehoming centre’s canine carers report that the puppies are now thriving, full of beans, and fast approaching their seventh week.

At eight weeks old, these five tough cookies will be ready to head home with their new forever families. While their final assessments are still underway and vaccinations need to be completed, the rehoming centre has already had a lot of interest from suitable homes within its existing pool of applicants.

Richard Moore, Rehoming Centre Manager at Dogs Trust Harefield said, “These pups have been an absolute treat to care for since they came through our doors, and we are so proud of the progress they have made. We can’t wait to see them off to their forever homes, where they’ll get the love and care every puppy deserves.”
