Canal Boat Diaries presenter takes a tumble during filming on the Wey Navigation

Narrowboat adventurer and Canal Boat Diaries presenter Robbie Cumming found himself unexpectedly overboard while filming the latest series of his popular TV show - after being caught in a sudden summer thunderstorm on the Wey and Godalming Navigations in Surrey.

The incident occurred as Cumming was navigating his floating home, The Naughty Lass, when the weather took a dramatic turn. In an effort to protect his phone from the downpour, he lost his footing and slipped overboard, plunging into the canal.

“All was going well until a summer storm came out of nowhere,” Robbie explained. “I was rushing to save my phone from getting too wet and slipped and tumbled into the water. Thankfully, I was only waist-deep, but I was rather shaken and bruised by the ordeal.”

Undeterred, Robbie continued his journey, exploring the entire navigation, with stops in Guildford and a final destination in Godalming.

The new series of Canal Boat Diaries begins 19th May at 8pm on U&YESTERDAY, with the full series available to stream.
