Community mural officially unveiled in Staines Town Centre

On Monday 7th October, the artwork was visited by the Mayor of Spelthorne, Councillor Med Buck, alongside pupils from Staines Preparatory School who assisted in the creation of the mural, with an official ribbon cut to celebrate the fantastic work and dedication to brightening this area of the town centre.

The design was created by professional artist Saroj Patel with the collaborative efforts of students from four local primary schools: Staines Prep, Riverbridge Primary, Chennestone Primary, and St Ignatius Catholic School.

Volunteers from Two Rivers, Dandara Living, Ashford Youth Club, and residents of Staines came together to paint the mural alongside the students and artist back in August, with the attractive mural gaining much attention across social media.

Featured in the mural are floral displays noting the town’s conscious efforts to solidify its status as an inviting and colourful town, futuristic buildings nodding to the potential of the town in years to come and recognition of the town’s vibrant arts scene.

Funding for the project was generously provided by Network Rail and South Western Railway, with special thanks also extended to Michael and Aymen at B&Q in Staines, who kindly donated materials to help make the mural possible.

Andy Edmeads from Visit Staines, commented “It was a privilege to attend the official unveiling of our town’s community mural alongside the Mayor of Spelthorne, Staines Preparatory School and the team here at Visit Staines. This mural has truly brightened up this space and serves as an opportunity of reflection on a walk through our town, and the vibrancy and creativity shown by artist Saroj Patel and the students across the four schools has been inspiring. We encourage locals to stop by and take a look at this art piece themselves!”
