Farnham opticians celebrate £235,000 investment in the town centre

Opticians and audiologists celebrated their store’s re-opening with a party for the people of Farnham and a fundraiser to celebrate its first refurbishment in over a decade.

Specsavers Farnham, located on West Street, marked the landmark event with Mayor Brodie Mauluka as their special guest.

To further commemorate the day, marking the store’s £235,000 upgrade, the team held a raffle and had a children’s party area with face painters.

The festivities ended with £210.70 in donations, which will be split between the two Farnham charities – Farnham Foodbank and The Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.

Georgina Croft, retail director of Farnham Specsavers, says: ‘The team and I are so pleased with the reception we received from the town.

‘We wanted to celebrate this refurbishment with the community as well as giving back to it and this couldn’t happen without the people of Farnham.

‘Farnham Foodbank and Hearing Dogs for The Deaf are causes really close to our hearts and we thought it was important to donate to them when we can.’

During the celebration, the store hosted a kids’ eye health clinic where parents were able to have a walk-in appointment.

Audiology director Emma Walker, speaking on the charity for the deaf, said: ‘The celebration was a great opportunity to raise awareness around deafness, the signs and what help is available for people. ‘The refurbishment plans kept people with accessibility issues in mind, which is why we brought the audiology clinic downstairs.’

The refurbishment has enabled the two-story store to move its audiology clinic to the downstairs level and the optics to the upper level which is more accessible to people with mobility issues. There will be optical clinics on the lower level for this reason too.

The refurbishment also comes with new modern testing equipment, a fully sound-proofed ground floor audiology room, illuminated frame bars making for a more customer friendly store layout, and an enhanced staff area for the team to enjoy. Anyone unable to visit the Specsavers Farnham store unaccompanied due to disability or illness may be eligible to receive care at home via a team of mobile opticians.
