Local Year 7 student celebrates winning national award for reading excellence

Ishmael Chickowore from Bohunt School Liphook was awarded the national title Reading Plus Usage Hero for his reading progress.

Ishmael Chickowore, age 12, from Bohunt School Liphook in Hampshire, is celebrating after being awarded the national title Reading Plus Usage Hero for his exceptional dedication and reading progress.

Reading Solutions UK, the home of the online reading development programme DreamBox Reading Plus, organised this initiative to give students nationwide the opportunity to be recognised for their reading achievements and efforts on the Reading Plus programme.

Ishmael was nominated by Reading Support Teacher Cindy Harnett, who said: “Ishmael was nominated because of his outstanding ambition for himself. He has an excellent work ethic and he brings his A-game to every lesson.”

To recognise his achievements, Jacob received a £25 book voucher, trophy and certificate.

Ishmael said: " Thank you, Reading Plus! Reading is a goal I strive to achieve. I never want to stop developing my vocabulary and speech."

Reading Plus is designed to improve students’ reading fluency, stamina, and comprehension.

Cindy finished: “Reading Plus has motivated our students to improve their reading. The programme is an effective and useful tool to drive pupil progress and develop lifelong readers.”

Nick Fullarton, Reading Development Consultant at Reading Solutions UK, said: “We are delighted to award Ishmael as our Usage Hero. Every month, teachers nationwide nominate pupils to be our Reading Plus Usage Hero. Jacob was selected out of hundreds of entries – he should feel very proud.”
