Optical team helps Godalming students see bright futures in eyecare careers

Godalming opticians visited Rodborough Secondary School to speak to its teenagers about life after school and careers in optical care.

Specsavers Godalming, located on the High Street, spoke with the 14 and 15-year-olds of Rodborough School, using a variety of activities and props to keep the students engaged and asking questions.

There they illustrated and explained the opportunities in eye care, enlightening the students on the various paths such as apprenticeships, traineeships and even business ownership.

The team also left the pupils with gift bags filled with goodies which included a voucher for a free eye test.

Speaking on the school visit, optical assistant Carol Caine said: ‘It was so lovely to come down to Rodborough and speak with the young people there.

‘They were all amazing and were so engaged, asking a lot of insightful questions about our time at Specsavers as well as our careers in optical care.

‘I’m sure we have piqued the interest of some of them and we can’t wait to see what the next generation of Godalming become.’

Rodborough School was established in 1951 and for over 70 years they have been a beacon of the town, educating many of the residents of Milford and Godalming.

Their ethos of unlocking potential is exemplified in the role as a feeder school to Godalming College.

Megan Dunn, duty manager of Specsavers Godalming, said: ‘It is such an honour for the team to come down to Rodborough and speak to the students about their journeys in life after education.

‘A career in optometry is extremely rewarding and it was throughout my first job in Specsavers that helped me realise this. It’s been over seven years since I started as a dispensing assistant, and I haven’t looked back.

‘I have enjoyed every second of my time with Specsavers and I urge the teenagers and young people of Godalming to look into a career in optical care. Here at Specsavers, we will be with you every step of the way.’
