The Egham Museum to host Tea and Talk’ event with local author of moving WWII memoir

The Egham Museum is proud to host a special FREE “Tea and Talk” event on Tuesday, May 13th from 4:30 to 6:30 PM at The Literary Institute, 51 High Street, Egham, where guests will meet Roseanna Rolph, author of the poignant new memoir Dear Mr Snippet.

This beautifully curated book draws from real wartime letters, diary entries, and family photographs to paint an intimate portrait of Roseanna Rolph’s grandparents, John and Rita, during World War II. Married just before the war broke out, the young couple was soon separated by John’s military deployment—sparking a deeply human, witty, and emotional correspondence that spans years of hardship and hope.

At the heart of Dear Mr Snippet is the timeless love between two people caught in extraordinary circumstances, but the memoir also sheds light on the silent struggles of military families during times of war. The author’s discovery of her grandparents' letters and diaries inspired her to preserve and share their story, blending family legacy with unique historical insight.

Roseanna Rolph, a teacher-turned-author and newly elected member of the Royal Historical Society, has carefully transcribed these letters, making them accessible to modern readers while preserving their authenticity. Her deep connection to the material and her own childhood experiences with parental absence have led her to collaborate with Little Troopers, a charity supporting military children.
