Vistry staff get muddy for a good cause

A team of staff members from Vistry Thames Valley endured a challenging experience to raise money for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

During Tough Mudder London West on Saturday 18 May, the 23-strong team encountered mud, water, electric shocks, ice baths, tear gas, and a 40ft net to scale. The course at the Culden Faw Estate near Henley-on-Thames was over 10 miles and featured 20 obstacles for the team to tackle.

All team members were victorious in crossing the finish line, resulting in £1,500 raised for SSAFA, Vistry Group’s chosen charity of the year.

Trevor Wicks, managing director of Vistry Thames Valley, was part of the team which took on the course for the third time this year.

He said: “It was a tough 10-mile race, but the hardest part was definitely the extreme hills around the course. They were an absolute killer!

“However, being involved in a team and the spirit of everyone being in it together was definitely a highlight. The obstacles also produced a laugh from seeing teammates attempt them, especially the electric shocks.

“The run resulted in a lot of limping around the office on Monday. Seeing our numbers grow from only 10 participants two years ago to 23 this year is great. This has now become a tradition at Vistry Thames Valley.

“We are so proud of the amount we have raised and hope this helps SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.”

SSAFA provides support for all members of the Armed Forces, including retired veterans and those struggling with life after leaving the forces.

Vistry Thames Valley has now raised a total of £11,350 for the charity, already exceeding the region’s £10,000 fundraising target for the year.

Previous fundraising efforts have included a spring ball, which featured a raffle, auction, and three-course meal, and the sale of show home furniture.

Vistry Thames Valley is part of Vistry Group, which includes Bovis Homes, Linden Homes, and Countryside Homes. The region is currently building new homes across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, and Hampshire.
