Surrey Green Party kickstart their local election campaign
Surrey’s Green Party has officially launched its local election campaign with a visit from the South East’s only Green MP.
Siân Berry, the Green MP for Brighton Pavilion, visited Reigate and Redhill on March 14 to launch the Green Party’s local election campaign for the new East Surrey unitary council.
She joined more than 30 Greens – including 10 councillors – and helped them deliver leaflets and campaign on doorsteps in Reigate, Horley, Redhill and Merstham.
Ms Berry, a former national Green Party co-leader, said the amazing parliamentary by-election in Manchester, where Hannah Spencer recently became the Green Party’s fifth MP, gave her hope for a strong result in this year’s local elections for the growing number of Green councillors and members in Surrey.

Cllr Jonathan Essex, leader of the Green group on Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, said: “It was very motivating for our local team to have such a high-profile colleague come to help.
“The national party clearly considers East Surrey to be an area that has great potential to win seats on the new unitary council.”
Green candidates will be standing in every seat across the East Surrey unitary area, the party said.
It added they are targeting seats in most of the towns, including all of the areas that already have Green councillors.
