Drivers in Surrey are among the worst offenders for speeding fines in the UK, according to new analysis.

The experts at Moneybarn car finance have analysed the number of penalties received by drivers in each police force area, revealing the speeding capitals with the highest amount of fines in the UK.

Surrey places 10th as the UK’s worst offending region, with fines hitting 7.33% of drivers.

In this police area, covering 1,205,600 people, 88,392 speeding tickets were issued last year, averaging 7,332 offences per 100,000 residents.

Lincolnshire is the UK’s worst offending region, with 11.52% of residents receiving speeding tickets.

Residents in Lincolnshire are exceeding the speed limit more than anywhere else in the UK.

Despite its modest population of 769,500, Lincolnshire Police dished out 88,641 notices, hitting 11,519 per 100,000 people.

Gwent, South Wales, has the fewest speed limit offences in the UK, with 31 speed limit offences per 100,000 people.
