Crawley Town cancel friendly as club confirms Carabao Cup preliminary round date
Crawley Town have confirmed the date for their Carabao Cup preliminary round clash at York City – but their friendly at Woking is now off.
The Reds were due to visit the Cards for a pre-season tune-up on Tuesday, August 4 – but the club have confirmed that game has been cancelled due to their Carabao Cup commitments.
A statement on the Crawley Town website said: “Crawley Town Football Club can confirm that our Preliminary Round Carabao Cup fixture against York City will take place on Monday, the 3rd of August, with kick-off scheduled for 19:30.
“Understandably, with no official confirmation on whether a Preliminary Round would be required until early June, both teams had already booked in their pre-season calendars, which made agreeing on a fixture date a difficult process.

“As per protocol, this was referred to the EFL, who are on hand to step in and decide when the fixture will take place. The EFL initially indicated that the fixture would need to be played at least seven days before the first round, which takes place on Saturday, the 8th of August, leading the club to believe that the Woking fixture would be unaffected, making it plausible to announce. Unfortunately, the club received the news this morning that a date prior to the 3rd of August could not be found, and the fixture would be taking place on this date.
“As a result, our pre-season friendly with Woking has been postponed. We thank Woking for their understanding on this matter, and wish them the best of luck for the upcoming season.
“Now that a date for the Preliminary Round has been set, the club are now in a position to announce the remainder of our pre-season calendar. An announcement will be made later in the week.”
