Care home residents enjoy Caribbean cruise without leaving Dorking
Adventurous care home residents were transported to warmer climes as their care team hosted a Caribbean-themed day designed to lift spirits and bring a splash of sunshine to January.
Residents at Dorking Manor Care Home climbed aboard a ‘tropical cruise’ without stepping outside - enjoying colourful cocktails, Caribbean-inspired music and lively conversation as they reminisced about holidays abroad and favourite sunny destinations.

The event transformed the Ridgeway Road care home into a vibrant celebration of summer, complete with smiles, laughter and plenty of holiday memories.
Respite resident and avid cruiser David Turner said: "I have been on numerous cruises, especially around the Caribbean with my wife.

“I remember the feeling of boarding the ship and the anticipation of seeing some wonderful places, and spending time meeting new people and the thought of having a wonderful holiday with my wife.
“This afternoon made me remember some of the fantastic times my wife and I had together. It was a wonderful experience.”
Margaret Mason was joined on board by her daughter, Cathy Mason.
Margaret said: “I have cruised extensively in the past with my husband. Being on this cruise brought back some wonderful memories and was so much fun.”
Cathy added: “Having never been on a cruise before, this afternoon was great and opened up some new experiences for Mum.”
The themed day was organised by the home's Wellbeing and Lifestyle team as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting residents' emotional wellbeing and social engagement.
Wellbeing and Lifestyle Coach at Dorking Manor, Kirstyn Box, said: “It can feel a bit dull in January when the days are short and the cold and rain set in, so we wanted to bring some summer sunshine into the home.
“Creating themed experiences like this helps lift moods, encourages conversation and gives residents something really positive to look forward to.”
Resident Vera added: “There is nothing like a bit of sunshine fun to lift the spirits.”
