Green MP visits East Surrey to launch local election campaign

Siân Berry, the Green MP for Brighton Pavilion, visited Reigate & Redhill on Saturday (March 14) to launch the Green Party’s local election campaign for the new East Surrey unitary council.

She joined more than 30 Greens (including 10 councillors) and helped them deliver leaflets and campaign on doorsteps in Reigate, Horley, Redhill and Merstham.

Siân, a former national Green Party leader, said the amazing parliamentary by-election in Manchester, where Hannah Spencer recently became the Green Party’s fifth MP, gave hope for a strong result in this year’s local elections for the growing number of Green councillors and members in Surrey.

Cllr Jonathan Essex (Redhill East), leader of the Green group on Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, said: “It was very motivating for our local team to have such a high-profile colleague come to help. The national party clearly considers East Surrey to be an area that has great potential to win seats on the new unitary council.”

Greens will be standing in every seat across the East Surrey unitary area and are targeting seats in most of the towns, including all of the areas that already have Green councillors.
