I am group arts editor for Sussex Newspapers and have been with the company for more than 30 years. During that time it has been a huge privilege to speak to some of our best-known actors and musicians but also the many more who are absolutely no less interesting for being less well known. I have also seen an endless succession of fabulous shows and gigs. Away from work, my passion is running. I have completed more than 40 marathons including London (six times), Paris (three times) and Portsmouth (seven times) plus New York, Tokyo, Marrakech, Dublin, Rome, Berlin, La Rochelle and Amsterdam among others. I have written 11 books, three of them on running, the most recent being Outrunning The Demons. It explores the way we can use running to combat trauma. I wrote it after being stabbed and left for dead in a bloodied heap in a ghastly Cape Town suburb I shouldn’t have been in. My other books are largely local history, Chichester, Gosport, Portsmouth and Winchester. My other big obsession is The Rolling Stones. I have seen them nine times – and remain in total awe of their ever-lasting brilliance. I am married to Fiona and we are both insanely proud to be the parents of Adam and Laura, two superb NHS doctors. They both live and work in Newcastle where they trained – so we seem to spend quite a lot of our lives on the M1!
