Twenty-five young performers from the Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts in Epsom recently joined coloratura soprano singer Nadia Eide for a spectacular festive concert at Guildford Cathedral.

Part of Nadia’s nationwide ‘Winter Light’ Christmas tour, the young performers aged four to eighteen took to the stage alongside the star to sing a selection of festive favourites in front of a packed audience. Songs included “White Christmas”, “Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer”, and lastly “I believe in Father Christmas”, performed by the eldest group.

The performance was the culmination of just three weeks of rehearsals, during which the young performers worked with expert singing teachers to perfect the songs.

Principal Jamie Bannerman of PQA Epsom said, “It’s been such a wonderful experience for our young performers, from our four-year-old Poppets right through to our older groups, to share a stage with an artist as inspiring as Nadia Eide.”

“Opportunities like these really showcase what performing arts at PQA is all about: building confidence, working together, and learning what it feels like to perform as professionals in a truly special setting. I couldn’t be prouder of the dedication and enthusiasm our young performers have shown.”

Young performer Adalyn, aged five, said, “I had the best time ever! It was the most magical day and I can’t wait to do it all again and I even told everyone at school that I got to perform with Nadia Eide.”

One of the parents, Sarah, said, “It was such a magical evening, the kids all had such a wonderful night and what an amazing opportunity for them.”

Another parent, Matt, added, “One massive thank you to Jamie, and all of his Elves for organising the magic of the night, and keeping the kids going and only smiling. Memories to cherish forever. It was awesome.”

Nadia shot to fame after reaching the finals on The Voice in 2021, notably impressing Tom Jones, Olly Murs, Anne-Marie and will.i.am. The Scandinavian-born singer combines classic opera with musical theatre, crossing over to mainstream media, and has performed at major venues across the UK, including Windsor Castle, London’s O2 area and Wembley stadium.

The collaboration between Nadia Eide and PQA is part of a series of three special performances across the UK, giving young people the opportunity to experience a professional performance in their local area.

Last Sunday, PQA Epsom also hosted its annual film screening, showcasing the incredible work of its young filmmakers from across the year.

Principal Jamie Bannerman, together with his team of professional teachers, is dedicated to providing a safe and inclusive space where young people can learn the latest techniques in performing arts while being encouraged to be themselves and shine.

Performing arts at PQA isn’t just about singing and dancing - there are also opportunities for young people to explore comedy, story writing, TV and filmmaking, offering a rich variety of creative pathways.
