Housebuilder invites Dorking residents to have their say on new homes

Leading local housebuilder and community creator, Thakeham, is sharing its proposals for 86 new, net zero carbon homes with residents of Dorking over the next two weeks.

The quality new sustainable homes at Land North of Milton Court Lane, in a range of sizes and designs, will sit alongside open space and a play area, new walking and cycle routes, an enhancement of biodiversity and electric vehicle charging points for each home. As a net zero carbon development, homes will feature increased insulation and renewable energy technology such as solar panels and air source heat pumps. These measures will cut not just carbon emissions, but energy bills for residents will also be significantly reduced.

With an average house price that is 15 times higher than the average salary, Mole Valley is the 4th least affordable place to live in the UK. Over the past 15 years, however, just 18% of homes built in the district have been affordable, meaning affordable homes for local people are much needed. This Thakeham development would go some way to addressing this need, with 34 of the 86 homes (40%) being affordable.

During a public consultation, which is running until 16 February 2024, Thakeham is asking local residents to share their feedback, comments and questions on its draft plans for the development to the northwest of the town.

Tristan Robinson, Director of External Affairs and Social Value at Thakeham, said: ‘Thakeham is committed to hearing the feedback of local people and we encourage residents to get involved, to share their views and to ask the questions that are important to them. This gives people the opportunity to find out more about how the new homes can benefit the whole community and enables us to feed their thoughts into our proposals as they evolve.’

Proposals are available to view online at www.thakeham.com/milton-court-lane-dorking, where feedback can also be shared.
