Plans for new £68.2m culture and leisure plans go live

The latest plans for a new £68.2m “leisure and culture hub” have been released.

Farnborough is in line to get a new library, two swimming pools, sports hall and fitness suite, while the youngsters can enjoy a dedicated soft play area.

The designs, which have received £20m of funding from the Department of Levelling up, Housing and Communities also include a new skate park, play area and mobility hub.

As part of the planning process people are being encouraged to have their say in a public consultation launched by Rushmoor Borough Council on Monday February 26.

Councillor Martin Tennant, deputy leader of Rushmoor Borough Council said: “We are totally committed to delivering a new leisure and cultural hub for the town and we are very excited to be sharing the latest designs with our residents for their comments.

“We hope everyone will take the time to come along to one of our drop-in sessions, or to find out more on the website. We look forward to hearing people’s views before we submit a detailed planning application this summer.”

It forms part of the wider regeneration of Farnborough’s civic quarter and has been based on feedback on what the public would like to see at the new hub – including a gallery with collaborative spaces for art projects.

The consultation will run until Sunday March 24, with the latest designs available to view and for comment online on a dedicated Farnborough leisure and cultural hub consultation website.

The council said the new hub is a key part of the town centre’s regeneration and that the £20m in funding showed the Government was in full support of the scheme.

The council wants the new hub to act as a focal point of Farnborough’s Civic Quarter and is planning a new hotel and nearly 1,000 new energy efficient homes as part of its vision.

Cllr Tennant added: “Farnborough’s new leisure and cultural hub is a key part of the regeneration of our town centre.

“The council’s vision for the scheme is for an iconic forward-thinking, carbon net zero destination that will provide new leisure facilities, alongside a library and community and cultural space in the heart of the town.”

As well as the website the council is hosting three drop-in sessions:

Saturday March 8, 10am to 1pm, at the Princes Mead shopping centre, Farnborough

Monday March 11, 2pm to 7pm, at the council offices, Farnborough Road, Farnborough

Tuesday March 19,10am to midday at the Princes Hall, Princes Way, Aldershot

Exhibition boards will be available at the council’s Farnborough Road office, from Monday March 11 to Friday March 15, and at the Princes Hall, in Princes Way, Aldershot, from Monday March 18 to Friday March 22.
