The Hornets – who were making their first appearance in the second round proper since 2007 after first round opponents Barnsley were expelled from the competition due to an ‘administrative error’ – went toe-to-toe with the U’s in the first half but second half goals from Dion Pereira (2) and Omari Patrick saw the hosts book a place in the third round.
But who stood out for Horsham at Gander Green Lane? Here’s how Sam Pole viewed the Hornets’ performances.

9. Charlie Hester-Cook
Hester-Cook was Horsham's best outfield player in the first half. He ran his socks off for the Hornets in the middle of the park Almost opened the scoring for the visitors when he burst through the Sutton defence but could only fire his left footed effort wide. Photo: Getty Images

10. Lee Harding
A dynamo on the wing. Harding looked threatening on the right hand side and has some great link-up play with Price down the wing. His defensive work was also great, especially tucked in as a wing back following substitutions late on. Photo: Getty Images

11. Shamir Fenelon
Often isolated up top, Fenelon put in a superb shift, running onto loose balls and being the target man for the Hornets. The Hornets striker didn't end up on the scoresheet but his contributions off the ball helped his side no end. Photo: John Lines

12. Dan Ajakaiye
Ajakaiye's pace and attacking threat was constant throughout and the Sutton defence looked nervy whenever he chased after the loose ball or ran at the back four. His defensive work was also exceptional, using his pace to help track back and defend any counter-attacks that the hosts tried to create. Photo: Getty Images
