Idyllic Caribbean island welcomes increased British Airways services from London Gatwick

The Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc (BTMI) has announced a significant increase in airlift from the United Kingdom this winter, as British Airways is set to expand its services to the island for the winter 2026 season.

From October 25, British Airways will introduce a new daily service from London Gatwick Airport to Bridgetown, Barbados, operated by a Boeing 777 aircraft offering a choice of three cabins on flights – Club World (Business Class), World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy) and World Traveller (Economy).

The service will offer onward connections to Grenada, Guyana and Tobago.

The new route from London Gatwick Airport will complement the airline's existing double daily service from London Heathrow to Barbados.

The expanded schedule reflects continued strong demand for Barbados as a premier winter sun destination for UK travellers, while also strengthening the island’s position as a key gateway to the wider Caribbean.

Chief executive officer of the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc, Andrea Franklin, said: “The United Kingdom remains one of our most important markets, and this expansion by British Airways is a clear reflection of the sustained robust demand for Barbados as a premier winter sun destination.

“Aligned with our strategic focus on strengthening airlift, these additional services from London significantly enhance connectivity and provide UK travellers with even greater access to experience our island’s renowned hospitality and vibrant culture.

“This increased service enhances accessibility and also supports our broader tourism growth objectives.

“We look forward to welcoming more visitors to Barbados while creating meaningful economic opportunities for our tourism industry and our people.

“We are delighted to see this momentum for the winter season and extend our sincere thanks to British Airways for its continued partnership and long-standing commitment to the destination.”

The island of Barbados offers a unique Caribbean experience steeped in a rich history and culture, that is rooted in remarkable landscapes.

Barbados is the home of two of the three remaining Jacobean Mansions left in the Western hemisphere, as well as fully functional rum distilleries.

In fact, this island is known as the birthplace of rum, commercially producing and bottling the spirit since the 1700s.

Each year, Barbados hosts several world-class events including the Barbados Food and Rum Festival; the Barbados Reggae Festival; and the Crop Over Festival, where celebrities such as Lewis Hamilton and Bajan superstar and beauty mogul Rihanna are often spotted.

Accommodations are wide and varied, ranging from picturesque plantation houses and villas to quaint bed and breakfast gems; prestigious international chains; and award-winning five-diamond resorts.

Over the last two years the destination received significant recognition. In 2024, the island was awarded the Star Luxury Destination of the Year by Travel Bulletin Star Awards; the Routes Americas Destination Award and the Best Tourist Board (Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc) at the Globe Travel Awards.

In 2025 the island was featured in the National Geographic Best of the World 2025 and for the second consecutive year, received the Best Worldwide Destination award at the ITTN Awards in Dublin.

Notable awards include the winning the Caribbean’s Best Culinary Festival Award by the World Culinary Awards in 2023 and 2024.
