World Obesity Day: Camberley Musician Hits the Right Notes With 5-Stone Weight Loss
When local musician Steve Best realised his weight was stopping him from living the life he wanted, he knew something had to change. Now, on World Obesity Day, he is celebrating a remarkable 5st 2lb loss. Steve joined his local Slimming World group in January 2025 after a routine check revealed non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and high cholesterol. “I knew I needed to lose weight to improve my health, but I needed help to do it,” he says.
Initially nervous, Steve was quickly reassured by Consultant Angie Williams and the supportive atmosphere in the Deepcut group. “I’d always imagined losing weight meant cutting out my favourite foods, but when Angie explained the plan, it felt like a total game-changer. I was eating real food, never hungry, and the results were fast — I lost 7.5lb in my first week.”

Not a keen cook, Steve says the Slimming World frozen meal range at Iceland helped him stay on track. “There’s plenty of choice and the quality is great — I never get bored.”
The changes have transformed his lifestyle. On a recent tour he ran 5k every day in Spain and went hill walking in Andorra. At home, he enjoys the gym and cycles rather than drives. “For the first time, I’m confident I can maintain a healthy lifestyle for good and a recent doctor’s visit confirmed no sign of liver disease and normal cholesterol levels”.

Consultant Angie says Steve’s success shows the power of community support. “Our groups help people understand themselves, build confidence and make small steps that turn into lasting habits. Whether someone is new, returning, or using weight-loss medication, everyone is welcome.”
